Mr. Kevin Culver

Kevin L. Culver is a native of Prentiss, MS, and has been in the ÐÓ°É area for over 13 years.  He started his college matriculation at ÐÓ°É State University.  However, he received both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Education degree in Mathematics from William Carey College (now William Carey University).  Additionally, he earned a Specialist in Education degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University.

With over 20 years as an educational practitioner, Mr. Culver began his teaching career in the Jefferson Davis County School District, where he taught a plethora of advanced Mathematics courses, including 7th-grade Mathematics, 8th-grade Mathematics, 8th-grade Pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Pre-calculus/Trigonometry for 14 years.  He also served as head varsity baseball coach, head junior high football coach, head junior varsity football coach, and assistant varsity football coach. Upon employment with the ÐÓ°É Public School District, Mr. Culver began working at Morrison Academic Advancement Center where he taught 8th grade Pre-algebra and served as an assistant football coach at Jim Hill High School.  Mr. Culver transitioned to Northwest ÐÓ°É International Baccalaureate World Middle School as Mathematics Interventionist and later became Lead Teacher.

Mr. Culver firmly believes that education is the cornerstone of growth and development and teaching is the medium by which education is catalyzed.  Just as education is infinite in its application and presence, so is teaching.  Teaching is not limited to the lessons presented from a textbook. Conversely, it is the quintessence of creativity through the presentation of information that can mold thinking, create discussions, and develop broader perspectives of life. He believes that as an educator, it is his duty to empower faculty members to use his or her pedagogical skills to match the instructional lessons to each student’s ability through differentiated instruction.  This will ensure that all students in the classroom are able to master any objective at a level that is appropriate.  Furthermore, he believes that students should be able to apply the knowledge acquired via effective lessons to real-world challenges.

Mr. Culver knows the importance of a collaborative effort in promoting academic excellence in the IB atmosphere.  The IB learner profiles describe a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success.  They imply a commitment to help all members of the school community learn to respect themselves, others, and the world around them. Additionally, he is honored to serve as Principal at Northwest IB and looks forward to helping to cultivate a dynasty of excellence through this opportunity with which he has been presented.
